Andy Pop Stories

No, I Doubt You've Seen This Exact One
Andy Pop died on the seventh of July, during an unseasonably windy evening with the Mets trailing by one in the eighth after blowing a four-run lead, but with the heart of the order coming up in the ninth. He was 100 years old. An optimist to the end, he passed contentedly, inexplicably confident they would rally to win.
He hadn't always been this way. Indeed, it was only after the miracle of seeing Luna the imaginary faery queen suddenly spew as if possessed that he abandoned his former cynicism.
In the end, as if to taunt him posthumously, the Mets went down quietly in order in the ninth, leaving us with the haunting question: if Andy wasn't alive to see it, did his team really lose?
